A wikipedia definition:
'A photographic mosaic is a picture (usually a photograph) that has been divided into rectangular sections, each of which is replaced with another photograph of appropriate average color. When viewed at low magnifications, the individual pixels appear as the primary image, while close examination reveals that the image is in fact made up of many hundreds or thousands of smaller images. They are a computer created type of montage.'
But here's an example of a photo mosaic which shows how they work.
All contributors are welcome to register and upload their images to the database. The more images of different varieties the more likelihood that they will be used in the large scale photo mosaic. They should be a photographic response to the themes of heritage and art in Medway.
You can submit as many images as you like in jpg, tiff or bmp format. They should not have any border. Your images should be at least 640x480 pixels or at least 100 dpi, however these are minimum requirements, so higher resolutions are recommended but should not exceed 1800 x 1800 pixels. Images can be landscape or portrait but should be uploaded so that they are correctly rotated.
There is a 2MB limit on individual file sizes that you can upload; i.e. no single image should be above 2MB.
DON'TS
Don't submit images that you do not own.
Don't submit any images that are likely to cause offense.
The more images you submit the more likelihood they will be included in the large scale mosaics. The mosaic will be made from thousands of individual images of differing colours and textures. The wider variety you submit, the more likely they will be included in the photo mosaic.
